The Byodo-In Temple in Oahu, Hawaii, was built to commemorate the first Japanese immigrants to the island. Set against the jaw-droppingly beautiful backdrop of the Ko’olau mountains and surrounded by some of nature’s most stunning work, this serene landmark provides a relaxing getaway from the fast pace of the modern Hawaiian lifestyle.
Occasionally, visitors will also be greeted by the serene tones of the temple’s bell, which you can ring for good luck; buy a bag of fish food and feed the koi pools to increase your karma. The temple is a replica of a similar structure in Kyoto, and commemorates the Japanese immigrants of the island.
